Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actress who is known for her role as the fiery attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. After her wedding to her husband, she was referred to as Nikki Kodjoe. As a child living in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. In a Maryland high school event during her first years of schooling, she won the prize for the best actress. Alongside her involvement in the theater and in the ballet company, she was also a part of 'The Washington Ballet Company. The company awarded her an acting degree from New York University. She received a lot of praise after her debut big part as a character in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love. Films like Blue Streak and Boogie Nights Spark followed. Contractor, who was raised by his parents in Nigeria and Mumbai when he was 7, had traveled across the globe and lived through diverse cultures when he was a kid. She was a boarding student in London from seven to nine, after which her family moved towards Toronto, Canada, where she lived the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor trained in classical ballet in Toronto. She was also a star academically. At the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school specializing in arts), Contractor studied both ballet and theater. Contractor began acting at age 16, following nearly 10 years of dancing. After one year at University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the play Pericles in the highly regarded and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and got the lead role. The play was well-received throughout the 92 productions she appeared in. The play won her an award in 2002, which was awarded to the Best Production of the Year by Canadian Critics. She was offered the opportunity to be a part of the Stratford Conservatory. It allows only eight males as well as four female students to take a course in traditional theater. Contractor was eager to accept. The actress's spot in the next stage season was securing and she was offered the part of Hermia.
